Catwalk Fashion - Spring/Summer 2010
Lingerie as Outerwear
Stockings and hold-ups are set to make pulses race as they reveal themselves as outerwear on this season’s catwalk. This trend was shown at Dennis Basso worn with micro mini dresses and at Sonia Rykiel with see-though rain coats - Not for the faint hearted this trend!! John Richmond, Zac Posen, AF Vandevorst also favored this look for spring.
Lace Tights
Lace is pretty, sexy and summery. We love this outfit by Alice + Olivia accessorized with these funky lace footless tights. Lace tights look good on legs of all shapes and sizes and the addition of chunky heels makes this outfit a bit edgier rather than pretty. Sweet Roses in black or ivory from Jonathan Aston, and Pamela Mann Waterlily tights are a good tights to consider, the floral designs are slightly different. Pamela Mann Footless Waterlily tights come in black, blue, steel and pink.
Fishnets
Back after such a long time fishnets have at last graced the Spring Summer 2010 catwalks. Designers including Felipe Oliveira Baptista, Christian Dior, Francesco Scoglamiglio, and John Richmond have used whale-net fishnets to accessories fitted play suits, dresses cut to the thigh and ultra mini, mini dresses. Fishnet hold-ups add an air of confidence and drama to outfits worn at John Richmond. This trend is easy to translate; stringers from Jonathan Aston are a good match. For more leg coverage use regular or micronets instead.
Boho Look
Chanel showed us the trend for wearing dainty knee-skimming dresses with sheer patterned tights in black or cream. We actually supplied the tights for this outfit by Collette Dinnigan for her catwalk show. Sheer patterned tights are the newest way to accessorise your flirty little summertime frock.
Monochrome
At Chanel, DKNY, Yves Saint Laurent, and here at Moshchino the black and white Monochrome trend featured as an important part of the spring summer collection. Here black opaque tights worn with gold sandals completed the chic and modern look. Easy to copy… black hosiery flatters legs and gives an outfit polish and sophistication.
Utility Look
The Utility Look combines simple pieces in fresh way, no embellishments, just clean cut white shirts, loose jackets with plenty of pockets, jumpsuits and trench coats all in neutral shades, egg shell, beige, grey, white and taupe. Christian Dior showed the trend accessorised with delicate, sheer Lurex socks. Check out our similar styles to work the look.
Shorts
Spring + Summer = Shorts! A wonderful mixture of shorts were shown this season, from baggy silk shorts, to 80’s cycling shorts, wool cut-offs and leather high-waisted shorts at YSL – we love the sheer lacy shorts shown here at the Julie Haus collection teamed with cute sheer, black anklets. Socks and sandals generally complete the urban look with either little cotton ankle highs, or roll top knee highs. Our toeless socks from Pamela Mann work this look well.
Neutrals
Eggshell, beige, oatmeal, taupe, sand, nude, caramel are all the colours of the The New Neutral spectrum. Alexander Wang’s collection show above highlights these easy to wear shades. If a neutral palate isn’t your cup of tea, infuse with dusky pink, peach, cream, duck egg and pistachio for a softer, more romantic feel.
Geometric prints and funky patterns
The Anna Sui show featured great examples of pairing geometric pattern and design with feminine floral prints to create a wonderfully hippy, global traveler look. This look is easy to recreate with bright funky tights paired with one of the latest funky geometric design mini dresses hot off the high street.
Bold Brights!
Future Classics provided the antithesis of the neutral palate shown at many of the collections this season. Bright colours such as pink, fuchsia, red, purple, aqua, violet, green and orange were featured right across all the collections. Choose to accessorise your spring wardrobe with matching footless tights or opaques – 15 denier sheer bright coloured tights are also a good way to wear the trend.
