Tightsplease Spring Summer 2011 Trend Report
Pleats, Ruffles and Lace
Are we surprised to see pleats, ruffles and lace again on the catwalks this season? Not really. But that doesn’t mean we’re not pleased! They’re a great way to inject a little femininity and romance into an outfit without going all Sandra Dee (pre rock chick make over, of course). Ankle socks are the best way to embrace the trend, this season!
Sheer
Sheer fabrics are the epitome of summer hosiery. Whether it’s a pair of nude tights to add a summer glow to your pins, or a pair of traditional black sheers and staying chic without overheating in the sun; this summer, if you’re not looking to stand out in a pair of acid bright tights, sheer tights are as equally on trend, without the drama!
White on White
We’ve spent winter wishing the white landscapes would disappear. If the catwalks are anything to go by, it’s going to be a white summer! But don’t try and adorn white on white with accessories; keep it simple. Nude shoes will look effortlessly romantic with a pair of thick opaque, white tights.
Abstract and Arty
From one extreme to another; colour blocking, to abstract and arty. If rich, block colours are a bit too plain for your style then the Abstract and Arty trend is the one for you this season! Mixing romantic, floral patterns against graphic stripes and ethnic animal is an artistic talent, do it properly and you can look outrageously cool! Pamela Mann Freesia Tights or Floral Spring Flower Tights, are both great ways to experiment with this key trend!
Ethnic Details
Designers such as Henry Holland and Pucci, featured tassels on everything this season. From ankle socks to dresses, their Spring Summer catwalks were bursting with ethnic inspired details. Tassels in particular were oversized, extra long and brightly coloured; desperate to stand out!
Animal print is another great way to inject some ethnic detailing into your wardrobe. Wolford Leo Tights are our favourites. Or try Pamela Mann Leopard Print Tights for a purse friendly alternative.
Grunge
It seems we weren’t quite ready to let go of last year’s punk trend, and so we’re carrying it straight through to this season. With designers such as Balmain and Balenciaga, once again rocking the punk trend, it might not be anything brand, spanking new, but it’s not to be ignored! Jonathan Aston Ripped Tights, Wolford Sousan Tights or plain Fishnet Tights with (customised) holes in them, are all great ways to inject some Spring Summer Grunge into your wardrobe!
Colour Blocking
After six months of short days, dark nights and hiding our perfectly on-trend outfits, under hats, scarves and gloves, an injection of acid bright’s is exactly what we’re after right now. And it seems designers such as Lanvin, Versace and Miu Miu have heard our cries; their catwalks were bursting at the seams with block colour! In our opinion, this trend is difficult to pull off, unless of course you’re walking down the Versace runway. Try colour injections, such as a pair of opaque tights, Pretty Polly Fashion Opaques come in a selection of juicy colours.
